It’s time to let your creativity pave the way to new fashion ideas and new ways to express yourself through your hair, make up, accessories and attire. By setting your own trends, you’re not only becoming your own person but it’s also good for the planet, by not allowing things to be “out of fashion” you are giving these items of clothing a new life and the opportunity to be continuously of use. The biggest music and Pop icons set their own trends, they did not follow mainstream fashion trends, so why should you? The idea of what is considered trendy drastically changes when you consider how trends are initially set. artists are some of the most influential people in the fashion world, they are up there with the main people who are considered “trendsetters” in fashion, take some inspiration from them and set your own trends, don’t worry about what everyone else is wearing; these artists were trendy because they set the trends. Mullets weren’t trendy until stars like David Bowie and Rod Stewart rocked them in the 70’s, Stevie Nicks was the sole innovator of her witchy-bohemian style, punk fashion was unheard of until bands like the Sex Pistols donned multiple piercings and wore Doc Martens. Following these artists in their creative fashion ventures not only showed that you were a fan but also had the opportunity to showcase who and what you believed in and stood for. Mimicking Sid Vicious’ rugged yet cleverly thought out style, not only meant that you were a fan and listen to punk music, but also meant that you disagreed with the status quo and with modern tradition, you were anti-establishment and against institution, you believed in anarchy and destruction. You were a punk. The inspiration starts here. Express your interests through fashion, showcase your favourite bands and artists through your outfits and allow your fashion sense to represent your interests, your beliefs and who you are. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different looks to find your fashion style, it will be forever changing and evolving as you grow as a person. Just like these music icons, find your own fashion identity.
